Everyone wants to feel like they have their life together, but that gets complicated when things start to get busy. Rather than feeling like you’re on top of the world, you suddenly feel like you’re doing everything you can just to keep your head above water.
You can’t control the things that happen to you, but you’re always in control of the way you respond. Here are a few things you can do to keep yourself balanced when life gets hectic.
Create quality time.
You may not have a lot of spare time in your day, but you can make the most of the time you do have! It’s all a matter of perspective. If you have 20 minutes for a workout, push yourself to make it the best 20 minutes you possibly can. If you have a night off to spend with your family, put your phone down and be fully present. In fact, the average American family spends just 37 minutes of quality time together daily, so this is important!
You’re in control of how intentional you choose to be with your time. Are you going to waste it away by rushing from one thing to the next, or are you going to soak up every moment you possibly can? It’s up to you.
It’s hard to live a balanced life if you’re surrounded by physical or mental clutter. For this reason, getting organized is the key to keeping it all together.
Let’s start with getting rid of the physical clutter:
- Clean out your pantry and throw out anything that’s expired … you would be surprised at what might be hiding in the back!
- Go through your closet (use this 4-step guide to help you).
- Clean your workspace! This will do wonders for your productivity. And if you need multi-surface wipes, these are some of our favorites!
Now, let’s talk about clearing out the mental clutter:
- Invest in a planner to jot down everything you need to do each day. Apps like this one are helpful if you prefer a digital version!
- Get enough sleep at night.
- Write in a journal.
We know what you’re thinking: I don’t have time to get organized. This is when it becomes important that you make the time, because in doing so, you’ll be simplifying all areas of your life.
It’s okay if you have a million things going on tomorrow so you need to decline an invite to lunch with a friend. Most importantly, it’s okay to say no in order to protect your productivity. After all, “no” is a complete sentence.
Setting boundaries is not only healthy, but it’s necessary to staying in a positive headspace. If you lead a busy life, it’s likely that you’re used to putting others before yourself. Boundaries ensure that you’re able to put your priorities ahead of non productive things, if only for a few hours each day.
